The line is the union of the fisherman with the fish. It is very important to check your condition regularly. The start of a new year is a good time to do it.

After continuous use, the lines may wear out. It is important to check your status and know what is at stake.

1: the line has been twisted

If when unrolling the line without any tension, this forms a kind of small spirals, most likely have memory. The line has been twisted and has acquired the rolled form of the coil. It is not something serious since the line has not lost its resistance properties, but it could cause some problems. In this case, the risk of entanglements is greater, because the line will tend to become entangled at the moment of launching. If you're not careful, it could also wrap around the strut and cause it to break.

2: the line is worn

It is important to check that there is no crease or roughness along the length of the line. A bent line loses strength and can be broken when making sustained or high-tension shots (during the fight with a large fish, for example). You should also check that the surface of the fishing line is completely smooth. If not, it is likely that the line has rubbed with a branch or rocks and that its surface is worn. In that case, the line will be less resistant. Do not hesitate, you must change the piece spent.

THE BRAIDS:

Braids also require special care. A braid in poor condition can harm your fishing activity.

1: the knots

It is important to check that the line does not have knots. Very often a knot in the line creates entanglements. If a knot is formed, you will most likely have to cut the line.

2: the state of the fiber

The main indicator of the state of your braid is its fiber. If the fiber forms balls or the braid is not homogeneous, it means that the braid is worn and that it has lost its resistance and sliding properties. In this case, you should also cut the damaged part of the line.

Sometimes it is wrong to cut a long piece of braid, especially considering what it is worth. But if you do not, you are sure to have problems.

THE HOOKS:

All the hooks mounted, not mounted, triple or simple, need from time to time some small adjustments to be back to point and recover their effectiveness.

1: OXIDATION

If you find traces of rust in your hooks, you must act immediately. The longer you wait, the more degraded the hook will be. 

To thoroughly remove the rust, immerse your rusted hooks for a few hours in a glass with Coca-Cola. Then wash them with soap and water to remove the sugar. Rinse and dry them.

2: THE TIP 

A good tip translates into fewer disengagements and fewer missed opportunities. We recommend that you check the tips of your hooks, that you sharpen them often or that you change them if necessary. In case of doubt, change the hook.

CLOTHES

The comfort in fishing is always important to obtain better results. It is essential that the waders, jacket or pants are watertight. To check the water tightness of your waders, immerse them in a bucket with water and see if any air bubbles escape. If you see any, you can repair your waders with the repair kit.

It is likely that your jacket and your fishing pants have lost their original pearling effect. To recover it, machine wash at 30 ° C. Select an abundant rinse and a gentle spin. Dry the clothes on the clothesline. Occasionally you can use the dryer, at a minimum temperature and with the shortest program, since it will also improve the pearling effect. Another possibility is to use a re-waterproofing spray to increase the quality and duration of the pearling effect.
